Jeopardy Host, Alex Trebek, Visits Drexelbrook

Recently, we were sad to hear of the passing of beloved “Jeopardy” host Alex Trebek. Trebek was a household name across the country, loved by many for his wit and genuine love of trivia. Years ago, we had the honor of having him visit our Drexelbrook Event Center. He was the keynote speaker at the Delco Hi-Q quiz dinner. Hosted annually, the dinner was filled with high school students for the competition, teachers, and administrators across the county.
Instead of sitting with the other honored guests, Trebek sat with each of the three winning high school teams for his dinner. He was genuinely interested in interacting with the students during the dinner, showing his personality is the same on and off screen. A reporter from the Delaware County Daily Times interviewed him before the dinner, and stated that he “responded to every question with a smile.” He truly lit up the room with his personality.
Trebek is not the only famous person from “Jeopardy” to visit The Drexelbrook, however. Three years after Trebek’s visit, 2.52 million dollar “Jeopardy” winner, Ken Jennings, attended the Hi-Q Banquet as well. He was also a keynote speaker for the dinner, as an avid supporter of education.

Delaware County’s connection to jeopardy does not stop there, though. Another grand “Jeopardy” champion, James Holzhauer, was taken down from his 32 game winning streak by a Delaware County native. Emma Boettcher (featured left), a librarian from Paoli, defeated Holzhaur by over twenty thousand dollars in “Final Jeopardy.” From there, another Delco native defeated Boettcher. A man from Wayne, Brendan Roach, beat out Boettcher with only a $200 lead.
The Main Line has held “Jeopardy” fame in recent years, and we are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Alex Trebek. We look back fondly on the time he was able to spend here for the Hi-Q tournament, and the impact he has had on our local champions. He will truly be missed by many from Delaware County to the rest of the country.
